I'm thinking that this item will increase your speed 100% for a couple seconds, but once the time is up, you'll be knocked down or stunned.

According to the spell effect it is 300% run speed for 2.5 seconds, and then a knockdown stun for 2 seconds. It also says it is 15 second cooldown, but that doesn't seem quite right...

Doesn't do a knock down effect anymore found out after patch that after the speed boost is gone gives ya a second or two of a whirlwind spinning effect, and sometimes after that whirlwind effect, pops ya 10 yards or so in the air doing ~740+ damage.

And from the whirlwind being controllable it's a lot better item now for WSG and/or running away from someone or something,

They do infact work in arenas, a enhance shamy would pop BL and then use them so i would have a huge troll zooming around the group for a lil while. looked pretty neat with the flame effect/bloodlust

Do they share a cooldown with Gnomish Rocket Boots?

These may be nicer and offer a higher speed boost, but the Gnomish boots speed burst lasts for 20 seconds if I remember correctly whereas these don't last as long.

In other words, they are each good for different reasons, even if the new ones are probably superior over all.

Bah, either way, if they share a cooldown I'm probably not going to cart both of them around, so let me know if you are aware of the answer.

Hi all, just wanted to make some clarifications and give some extra info on these boots :D

1.) Your friendly neighbourhood master Engineer won't be able to teach you how to make these. The Schematic (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=23887) has a very small drop rate off the second boss in SV (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=17796).
Heroic or normal mode, it doesn't matter :) The schematic itself is BoP though, and you should still be able to learn it if you're a Gnomish engineer.

2.) These boots do not break and the malfunction effect seems to have a relatively low proc rate. They are (in most cases) very reliable if you're able to effectively make the most of the 3 seconds of super speed :)

3.) These boots are in fact leather and aren't BoP. They do require 330 engineering in order to equip them though. So you're allowed to sell these and craft them for other engineers so they get to experience the fun too :)

4.) The speed bonus is around +300% for 3 seconds. If you have other active speed buffs up (Aspect of the Cheetah, Travel Form, etc) then they will not stack. Activating the Rocket Boots Xtreme will not remove your active speed buffs.

5.) Activating the Rocket Boots Xtreme will not remove any movement impairing effect whatsoever. Daze effects are said to be classified as another type of slowing effect/cc, but these boots will not overide that if you decide to activate them whilst dazed. So If you've been wing clipped, rooted or hamstrung, activating the boots won't really guarantee you a happy escape :/ Hamstrung + activating rocket boots = Warrior /lols at you :/

6.) Combining these boots with a parachute cloak (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=10518) is recommended for a high fun rating. Put these two into a macro or something (activate the cloak first) and enjoy the ride! As of patch 2.2, the cooldown of that cloak has been lowered to 30 seconds so it should prove more useful now. 7.) Usable in all arenas, BGs, duels, instances and in water (not fully tested yet though).

You can use these boots if you have the Shaman buff Water Walking on you. Shamans can also use the boots while in ghost wolf form.

Although I can't verify whether it's an exploit to use these with the Parachute Cloak, I can discuss a couple of my observations...
1) The whirlwind effect doesn't always seem to visually happen. Sometimes I will continue to run without spinning or anything, despite the whirlwind effect showing underneath me.
2) In addition to being usable in bear or cat, it can be used in Travel form. The Travel speed boost and the boot boost appear to stack. The boots don't however appear to be usable in Flight or Water forms.
3) You need to activate the boots before the cloak's slow-fall effect begins. If the slow-fall starts before you've boosted, it seems to override the speed boost. Using the boots first works because the cloak slows only your vertical momentum while not effecting your horizontal momentum.
4) Jumping at the end of the boost will indeed lengthen the duration of boost, not because the boots continue to go but because in the air you maintain whatever momentum you had when initially jumping.

I actually seen a Warrior use these and the parachute in WSG a few weeks ago.. It was kinda funny because I (rogue) just came out of the tunnel and he landed at my feet.

Not sure if it's noted here already, but after the 3 seconds are over you take around 250 dmg. This doesn't appear on the combat log, but i've killed myself a few times by accident doing this.

However if in PvP, it will deny your opponent a kill if you kill yourself with them.

I'd love to use them constantly, stats aren't so bad overall.

BUT I CAN'T 'COUSE OF THIS STUPID LOOKING SKIN THAT BURNS MY EYES WHEN I LOOK AT IT.

This is totaly a Rogue Item if you look at the stats (Leather, no STR and flat bonus to AP). Why the hell couldn't they make it black or grey. This just blows.

Cloth Version Being Added in 2.4

Stats are:

Xtreme Light Rocket-boots
Bind on Equip
Cloth - Armor 196
Durability 40/40
Engineering (330) required
Equip: Increases damage and healing done by magical spells and effects by up to 35.
Use: Engage the rocket boots to greatly increase your speed. You probably won't be still standing when you get there though... (5 Min Cooldown)

I have created a thread on the forums to ask exactly WHY they are nerfing the ability to flag-carry with these boots. The response from Bornakk was "that they are leveling the playing field".

Obviously, the opposing side in WSG has NO way to get an Engineer. The nerf to flag-carrying is kinda like nerfing Rogue sprint because one side doesn't have a Rogue and the other does.

Regardless, they ARE adding a cloth version also (which will probably be a bit OP with Frost Mages, but whatever).

A new recipe has been added for Rocket Boots Xtreme Lite, a cloth version of the Rocket Boots Xtreme. This pattern drops from Mechano-Lord Capacitus.

Rocket Boots Xtreme now have all their stat points allocated toward Attack Power, and will no longer have Stamina.

Rocket Boots Xtreme and Rocket Boots Xtreme Lite will cause players to drop a PvP flag if used while carrying one. (Warsong Gulch, Eye of the Storm, and Zangarmarsh)

I dont see why blizzard would nerf these! That's just damn childish in my opinion.
I wouldn't mind if an ally did the Rocket + parachute combo to capture the flag (Im horde) cos it would be rather funny.

These weren't that great before the 2.4 nerf, and now, with the stamina nerf, they seem to be a pretty bad choice. These boots https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=28178 that you get from a really easy quest are pretty comparable for PvP to the pre-nerf boots and much better for PvP post-nerf. PvP is why you'd want rocket boots in the first place, right? I don't see much reason for these to exist aside from the novelty value post 2.4. The only use I really see for these now is to put them on when you want the burst of speed, then swap them back out again as soon as your 3 seconds of speed are over. That is pretty inconvenient considering the 30sec equip cooldown and the fact that you can't change your armor in combat. I guess these will go in the bank now.

I can't find anywhere in this post, what happens when they backfire? I've used them 50+ times and never had them backfire.

Edit: Backfire was previously ~250 fire damage, which occurred 100% of the time.

On 2.4.3 Public Test Realm that damage is removed, and now there is a chance for them to "backfire" causing a 3 second stun on yourself called "Spinning out of control".

No more using Rocket Boots to break sheep, unfortunately.

On the current PTR build all versions of speed-increasing boots are not usable in Arena.

A dumb change since they have no purpose outside of PvP.

Rocket Boots Xtreme and Rocket Boots Xtreme Lite can no longer be used in the arena. These no longer have a failure chance.

This is a great WSG items if you combine it with Nifty Stop Watch, Skull of Impending Doom, and sprint if you're a rogue.
I'm assuming they don't get destroyed because I used them several times without them becoming some grey item.

To you who complaint about blowing up, you might have noticed it before, but engineering is not supposed to be very reliable.
Engineering is the most powerful profession in the game, so taking the reliability away is the best way to compensate

The older version before BC increased speed by 60%, or maybe 100%. So these will be more, probably up to 150%.
But the older ones exploded very often, like 1 in 10 times you use it. (i had 3 blow up in a row after being active for like 3 seconds)

SO, if these expensive POS's are anything like the others, you can use them once. Because if they explode they cant be repaired (the old ones couldnt) and you need to make new ones.
Sure, if you got 10000 gold and want braggin rights... maybe its worth getting. I think that for 400G though they are probably repairable, or you get most of the mats back from the broken ones.
Pre-BC ones were on 5 min cooldown i believe.

EDIT::
The speed increase was for 15 seconds (the longer you use them, the more likely they blow) I got a full 15 seconds burn the first time i used it, and outran a mounted lvl 60. Not sure if he was on an epic.

The boots don't explode, but they do knock you on your butt after 5 seconds of Xtreme 300% movement speed in a given direction.

I haven't had any malfunction on them yet so I think thats the only negative.

Recast on them is 5 minutes.

This guy has it right. The schematic is BoP and only visible to engineers. My group was not even aware it dropped until i hit need and it reported i received the item. They did not have the option to roll. finally! a reason to level engineering!

I can confirm the drop is off Mekgineer Steamrigger in steamvaults (rare drop)
But this patern dropped the first time for me.

These boots when used increase your move speed by 300% for 5 seconds, after which you are knocked down for 1 second or so.

Cooldown is 5 min, can go in engineering bag.

This thing ROCKS for WSG, especially if you are a druid or rogue 300% move speed for 5 seconds is like having 100% move speed for 15 seconds...
that is enough time to take you from the front of one base to the front of the other.

They arent that great for getting places, but really nice to show off with, or make some neat jumps. I like to jump onto the stage for the opera event with them, its a nice little shortcut.

Oh, and also, If you bubble yourself(or bubble someone else) it will actually stop these boots from stunning you.

I use these with the parachute cloak while my paladin is bubbling. If I jump off a tall building, I can fly. I can jump over the whole moat of stormwind, with tons of room to spare. It really does look like you fly if you use the cloak. The parachute cloak only cares about the last speed you had when you jumped and this carries over even after the boots speed buff wears off. So you end of going this speed as long as your parachute cloak works. I can only imagine what a noggenfogger light as a feather would add if used first, and then the cloak.

You can really fly with these. One of my favorate items.

Reicived reicipe yesterday on heoric SV run.

There is some tested info about those boots:

-They last only few seconds

-They giefs speed like fastest flying mount 280%(I make race with some people for fun so it is tested)

-5min CD

-They cant explode ofcourse,thats logical cause people will kill someone in blizzard HQ if items which cost around 500g mats explode.

-Extremly useful by WSG fanatics,awesome to get our flag out from enemy flag room(opponents doesnt have time even to target u:)

-After effect expire u doesnt get stuned,you just reicive funny spin annimation(almost like warrior whirlwind)...u can still move with this whirlwind thats just funny effect.

P.S.Boots is so fast that i think my game will crush any moment when u use them in crowded area lol

u have to be at least lvl 50+ to use, as u need to be at least lvl 50 to learn Engi skill (Master i believe) upwards of 300+. "requires 330 Engineering"

lol why cant clothies wear these? Whats the point? Suer preists/mages can slow fall but cant any engineer make a paracute cloak. So there is no risk of people getting somewhere they shouldnt. Im a gnome lock gnomish engineer and i hate not being able to make a fun item.

Level 59 rogue, just got these. Not only are these pretty much the best boots you can get for a rogue at that level, but slap Dexterity (+12 agi) on 'em and they get even sweeter. Plus the speed when you use them is INSANE!
I can sneak in, for WSG, grab the flag, use sprint to get outside, then fire the boots, and nothing can touch me.

Little bit of info on these boots.

They're great leather boots, absolutely ideal for level 59 twinking. I haven't seen better boots for that level, even in BG rewards. The stamina buff is also really nice, and you can get dexterity (+12 agi) put on them to make them nicer for rogues.

Using the boots: After you've equipped them, you can right click them on your person (or put a button in your action bar, which is much easier) to use them. A split second after clicking, the buff applies, with a nice fire-trail effect, and you have 300% run speed for 2.5 seconds. I really wish it was a longer duration, but you can cover a nice distance in that time period. Upon end of the effect, your character does a spin animation which signifies your return to normal running speed. You aren't stunned, your movement is not in any way interrupted.

Additionally, if you JUMP while the effect is running, and it wears out while in air, you continually spin and move at a high speed through the air until you touch the ground. It looks quite nifty.

The Cooldown on the use is, as mentioned many times, 5 minutes, which is pretty minimal. These + a shot of sprint would get you pretty far anywhere. Absolutely ideal for a rogue to use in Warsong Gulch: You can sneak in to the flag room, grab the flag, sprint outside, while using dodge and possibly a defiler's talisman if you have one. Once you get outside you can use the boots (You can use them inside, but it's easier to steer in an open area) and leave your enemies behind. If you use the preparation skill, you can get another shot of sprint, which makes for a quick flag cap. And the boots and at least your regular use of sprint (preparation has a 10 minute cooldown, so no luck there) will be cooled down by the time you're ready to cap the flag again.

these things are by far the best boots in the game. i can get on BS roof, get on org, and best of all freak ppl out about my insane speed. good for pvp, if u wanna run away real fast, heal, w/e. u can go in eots and use parachute cloak and rocket boots to get all the way to FR.

Agreed. There are too many better boots out there now that Blizz is nerfing all the good qualities of the boot. Speaking as someone who doesn't have any speed capacity...the boots leveled the BG field (WSG and EoS). Now, with the removal of stamina as well, they're useless. Once again, Blizz takes away the true fun in these boots. I'm selling mine to the vendor.

You forgot to mention that 2.4 also gives Rocket Boots Xtreme Lite a cloth version of the rocket boots for any mage/warlock/priest engineers. To me I don't mind having a short timer or no stam, but its better being able to wear them in the first place.

When they do come out with the patch, we should see if you can use the boots, THen pick up the flag. It says "using boots will make you drop flag" but it doesn't say that for the seconds of duration. I.E. Take the flag outside the base, drop it, use boots, pick up, run and jump for para cloak, ftw.

FOUND COOL USE IN AV

Coupled with Parachute cloak, I was able to launch the off hill opposit Ice Wing Bunker and land on its roof..Haha I had Ali yelling WTF as a shooting star screemed across the sky over the road..Horde too were yelling in Orcish..From the roof I could sniper the road and down on their heads when they came in the bunker on the edges..pissed um off..infact 6 hung around trying to get me but couldnt cause at half health I just run out of los...I have a renewed vigor now in AV ..I figureed away to land on different roofs such as Belindas and the Bunker further up to the left..My mission now is to land on Van's Keep roof where I can sniper the flag attacks...I almost figured it out..if anyone does respond please...Fun Stuff! GO Rocket boots!

To the person asking about being able to get it at level one Engineering:

I was doing the daily unaware that the schematic dropped from him, and had about 125 Engineering at the time, just for the cloak. This dropped and no one else was an Engineer. So it is quite probable that it can drop at level 1.
