That's a fair response. Realistically, if people -weren't- passionate or pissed off about a character's development, that means they failed to develop them to a point where people should care. Sylvanas has some of the most in-depth development, for good or bad, and it shows in how the community reacts to her actions every time she's on screen. I think them accepting that they're going to piss some people off is a good sign that they've accepted the consequences of developing a controversial character, and hopefully that means that they'll develop her as they see fit, and not just pander to one side of the community or the other.
Cant wait for those Cinematics!
Also it's a good thing that they've realized that political story telling isn't their forte lol. Look there are very few games that pull of those narratives properly, Dragon Age: Inquisition comes to mind, but some games just don't have the ability to really explore those topics, not because they can't be developed, but because developing them takes SO much attention to detail and intricacies of logic that, if you $%^& it up, it comes across as ham-fisted. WoW does best with big narratives, good vs. evil, fate of the world type stuff, with little emotional beats here and there, and it's good to see they learned that lesson.

"I'm pretty confident (without giving away spoilers) that as Shadowlands unfolds, talk of parallels between those two characters and their narratives will diminish steadily over time." <I'm unsure how to directly quote something.so apologies but this is a quote from the top.I am very excited for this! If there's confidence behind this then I am even more hyped to see what's going on with Sylvanas in Shadowlands.
i do agree about sylvanas. I love her and other hate her. But i think we can all agree, we are ready for her arch to be done for a while. I mean its been across 3 expansions of her story major development and pretty much all of Warcraft. She is a character that was made back when arthas was being made. The lich King/Arthas was concluded and everyone was satisfied with the ending. I just hope we all will be too with Sylvanas soon. I mean she basically outlasted Arthas/Lich King and is one of the oldest characters that are still alive or that is in a major spotlight. I think everyone is ready for something/someone new.
I found the character storytelling so good and different that i named my UD warrior Sylvarrosh. Can't wait for the next level surprise.
Ok fine Sylvanas is not Garrosh 2.0 but don't turn her into Kerrigan 2.0. Good girl becomes evil, kills millions and then redeems herself. And all of her actions were just to save us all and according to her plan.... Hold up....
I’m ready to put Sylvanas defeated, perma-death style, but she’s got the most impenetrable set of plot armor ever created and the odds of her dying are less than zero.
When people compare Sylvanas and Garrosh they're not talking about their methods or making a tally of all their crimes. They were both evil warchiefs that had to be deposed which is why their stories are very similar. We deposed an evil warchief twice. Would Blizzard really write a 3rd evil warchief who uses different methods and then say they're not similar to the others? As for Sylvanas I don't give a damn if she ends up being right all along. She and her followers can do whatever they want, just keep her the hell away from my character unless they're fighting each other. Neither faction has any reason to work with Sylvanas ever again because of all her deception and if they do it'll just be ridiculous. I already got my gratification on the day that she abandoned the Horde.
If they took the story seriously they'd fire every single one of those hacks that wrote BfA, retcon it and hire a team that's actually good at the job. Jesus Christ.Honestly, at this stage the lore is so broken that anything short of retconning WoW entirely and having Warcraft 4 be the real sequel to Warcraft 3 seems like folly.
I promise to forget all about BFA if Blizzard makes an interactive branching quest where you get to execute Sylvanas in different gruesome ways
I feel like they didn’t learn anything here. These are not the lessons they needed to learn. There’s so much to unpack here, but almost none of it gives me hope. The biggest is that they didn’t identify that trying to write around cinematics was a major weakness of BfA’s story. “Wow, shiny cinematic!” people cried, but then as soon as you actually look into the lore, the spaces between the cinematics makes no sense.WoD’s trailer is an excellent example of this. Go look up why Gul’dan said “everything” if you want to see a perfect example of terrible writing forced around a cinematic.“Passion is good” but the thing is, BfA was the expansion I saw more hardcore lore nerds stop caring in than any other. Even WoD didn’t kill the passion like BfA did.The last few expansions have been focused on things that don’t actually relate to our character — world ending threats on other planets. BfA’s trailer, with its focus on different races, promised a return to a narrative about the races and the WORLD of Warcraft. But instead, it hyper focused on Jaina and other main characters.People went from “this is the expansion I’ve been waiting for” to “that expansion is never coming because they’re incompetent”.How did people in the Horde react to Teldrassil? We don’t know, because they only showed main characters, we never saw the motives of any minor characters. So was the entire Horde just OK with it and going along with Sylvanas happily?Remember when they said 8.1 was a chance to show minor characters’ motives with the AV NPCs? Their motives were “yells angrily”, that’s it. Wrath and Cataclysm managed to show us minor characters’ personalities and motives surprisingly well, and they fleshed out the world. Now, that world is just a hollow background for Jaina, etc.
damn no comment on the "morally gray" memes?also, bfa had an existential threat - n'zoth, which is not even mentioned here. they chose to build an expansion on politics and then last 2 patches lets shove in the big hyped existential threat and rush it. but even with all of that, its a big step in storytelling. just look at legion all of its main characters: illidan, khadgar, velen, were tossed to the bin at the end. they went full "existential threat" and it was meh. what was even the story? some islands are under the legion army, we get super weapons and beat them with edgelord illidan. oh and varian died. saurfang had more story.
