Many of the new options are hidden by gear such as body tattoos and blood elves jewelry. So you don't get that many different characters. In particular there are very few different faces to chose from and some races only have one face (and changing its texture doesn't make any difference). Also about hairs, there are very few hairs to chose from and even less if you take into consideration that there are a lot of them that are ridiculous. So everyone ends picking up the same hair over and over again. You have the feeling that you have a lot of choices but when you start messing with the barber you end up disappointed. For a company as large as Blizzard this is pretty disappointing.Besides they had implemented physics in many of the new gear sets and there are some hairs that have physics (or at least they faked it very well) so why dont we get better physic based hairs instead of those ones that are vertex-skinned to the shoulder?
Is this the post where I get to complain about how male taurens have three variations for each fur color (solid, white belly, and spotted) while females only have two? This has frustrated me since vanilla and it's really disappointing they didn't take this opportunity to add them. I want my two tone tauren ladies :(Also I really agree that a plain numerical calculation doesn't capture the nuance of distinct appearances when things like hairstyles and skin tones are so much more visible than whether someone has two earrings or three in their left ear, or slightly more greyish eyes .Finally... everyone runs around completely concealed by armor so all this infinite diversity in infinite combinations goes unappreciated anyhow so much of the time.
sad face as nightborne
" I didn't realize some faces were locked to some skin tones. " I discovered this with my Void Elf. I wanted to make her skin tone more normal since Alleria Windrunner isn't always "void colored" but I did not want to change my lovely Void Elf's facial features. So, she remains the same skin tone that she started out with. I did give her some very nice violet eyes though and I am quite pleased with that! Looking at my Druid, I think the options are so numerous that I may be playing around with those combinations for a very long time. Overall, I love the new customizations.
They included the hunched vs straight posture, effectively doubling the male Orc results...
lol humans have like 40 face options but we're gonna declare orcs the winners because they can choose a hunched or straightened posture. ok.
now i know why nightborne felt lackluster.
I look forward to more customization being added for neglected races in 9.1 and 9.2.I for one, think worgen need tail and more ear options.
Yeah I race changed my rogue because of how disappointing his customizations were, so I guess Blizzard still wins. Though I'd race change back if they'd add half as many options as the other elves...
Funfact, previously on wowpop there used to be a thing that showed how many players played each race per faction.Humans were for alliance, and Blood elves were for horde, each were over 50% with Blood elves being the most played race in the game.Blood elves got so little customization, that the only thing I changed about any of my characters, both male and female was make their hair darker. So the fact that horde players got slapped in the face by giving orcs/trolls more customization than the human comparison for horde, is pretty depressing.
It is sad to play male blood elf.
rip allied race...
I know the delay of SL is draining all the possible news you can make but come on, the Number of option of Customization Combinations...
