If WoW had a million subscribers before Classic, an increase of 223% would mean that there are a little more than 2 mio. subs right now. That seems to line up with the WeakAuras numbers from last year and the total of 4 mio. characters created on WoW Classic servers.
"It is important to note, however, that one of the reasons Blizzard gave when stopped disclosing direct information on subscriptions was that subscriptions weren't a good picture of how healthy WoW playerbase was"Actually, it was a great indication of how healthy the WoW playerbase was. It wasn't a good indication of their revenue, though.
You do all realize that this is a measure of revenue, not sub count, right? Of course revenue was higher with the BfA launch because it cost $55 (“benefited from box sales”) while a sub to Classic is $15. I’m sorry to rain on the parade of all the Classic haters but this data is shockingly great for Classic and shows there is still a market for a ‘traditional’ MMO, not whatever retail WoW has become.
I really want to see this work, both retail and classic. The idea that I could log on and level in retail, do the content and then hop over to classic for some nostalgia is awesome. I have already noticed my interest in the next retail patch, compared to the current one which I didn't play. I cant help but feel that is down to the fact, I have been on Classic and had one of the most frustrating, PvP blood bath filled, exciting and fun levelling experience I have had since I started in retail. Folks can we come together to just support the idea of people having fun! there is loads of games I can't the site of but I wish the games all the best as they have some kind of following and are greatly enjoyed! Also I had an active sub prior to Classic but seldom played so figures will be a bit all over the place, but I know my realm is doing quite well and I hope it stays that way.
