Everything you said is true and does not come off as derisive to me at least. It's human nature to look at fun things from the past through rose-tinted glasses. I imagine some people only really enjoyed classic WoW, and for them that might be enough, but I remember the less fun aspects. Getting a mount was an achievement, that was really my only goal, I didn't even know what raiding was back then, I scrimped and saved and I got the level 40 slow speed mount and I rode that kodo everywhere I could lol. But, I don't think raiding sounded that fun, people only brought druids to cast innervate on the priests and things like that don't seem very fun to me. I will probably play around with classic, but I am so used to the convenience of mounts at 20 and flying period. Also, companion pets were an item you had to keep in your bag which took up a slot, I dared not spend 40 silver on a prairie dog!
As for new content down the track - It does not have to follow the existing wow path. They could have alternates where the outcomes are different and new lore is created. The thing I look forward to is the sense of achievement early WOW gave you when leveling was earned and if you made an error you paid for it. Hunters had to feed their pets and keep there quivers full or things got nasty. If you took a wrong turn it was goodnight again. Frustrating at time - hell yes but when you overcame an obstacle, got that blue drop, tamed a rare pet or completed a mission it felt like an achievement. Cant wait.
yeah baby
They have upgraded client codebase from 7.3.5 (Blizzcon Demo) to 8.0.1 in todays build.

There are lots of older games that haven't gotten content updates in a long time and still have an active community to this day. Diablo 2 is a good example, as are Age of Empires, Civ, Left 4 Dead, Quake, etc... I'd guess there'll be people on Classic for as long as it's around.
