What do you like to spend your gold on? What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought? Have you ever gambled with an unclaimed container on the Black Market? - ~~~~~Even though I don't spend it on anything other than WoW Tokens which is where my gold never gets outta that hole, I WOULD like to spend my money on getting some mounts here and there. A dream for me, anyway. I think the most expensive thing I ever bought was probably the Haunted Memento which I no longer have, unfortunately - an ex of mine has it since I let them use it for flavor RP purposes. But scrounging around for money for that was difficult at the time. I really wish I could get that item again. Ah well. I've put down gold for a container. Have I ever won the auction for it? No.
Usually I just spend my gold on repairs and raid consumables, but maybe I'll start trying out the unclaimed black market boxes. I've got a lot of rare mounts already though so the idea of getting one I already have is kind of depressing.
I'm still working on the Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur not just for AH piece, but also for the BFA materials. So I no longer have to stock up and just buy when needed.
In regards to aversion to spending gold, I found out that having a comfort point makes spending money far more enjoyable. Another point is having a reason or goal to collect the money to spend it! I've only ever been at a max of 600k before, so I'm not rich by any means, but even after spending 500k and dropping down to 100k, I found myself happy, since I still had something that stopped me from being virtually poor, but the second reason I was still happy was because I was saving gold to buy WoW Tokens to convert to B.net Balance so I could buy myself Warcraft 3: Reforged. Am a happy one even after buying 4 tokens, so all in all, a good trade.
The most expensive single item I ever bought was probably the Flintlocke's Blasthammer from the Black Market Auction House. It was a little over 100,000g, but I needed it for my transmog. I kind of wish it could also act as a 1 Handed Mace as well, though. It was certainly an impulse buy and the most I've ever spent on a transmog. I don't even use it anymore! I'm nearing 500,000g for the first time, though, so that's really exciting!
The most expensive thing I've ever bought is probably transmog gear. I like collecting the different pieces so I can change my look often.I like the idea of playing the auction house more, but I'm mostly too lazy.
I found that the strategy of the black market action house is very effective! I loved how flexible it isThe idea of playing the Action House is a bit time consuming and I find myself as a lazy person!
For me it took a lot effort to buy the Sandstone DrakeI want to do more gold making to pay for my WoW but its a lot of work to find the right server economy
A bit embarrassing, but the most gold I’ve ever had is just shy of 500k. I make 1-200k a month (without trying; I currently don’t actively work on gold making) and mainly spend it on tokens for in-game services. The main culprit of my gold-drain is frequent race-changes! I’d like to get into gold making in the very near future, but its currently not my focus.
The most gold I spend is for Bnet for tokens, I make enough gold to play comfortably for free and I tend to tick over until I get to my lower threshold then I go back to goldmaking for a couple of months. Not interested in the Boi's but have a couple of pets that cost a bit too much at the time lol.
Regarding spending your money wisely, I suppose I am both a miser and a spendthrift, depending on mood and circumstances. Battle pets, for instance - I buy the ones I'm missing on the AH when they are common enough for prices to be reasonably low, so it takes a while before I get most of the newly introduced pets. And then I throw that all out the window - five minutes after visiting the AH, and thinking the available pets were too expensive, I go ahead and buy the Lightforged Warframe mount because it looks cool. I think I used that mount twice before it just became another part of my mount collection, always cherished but never used.Luckily, I do manage to make enough gold to finance these occasional bouts of insanity... I guess the Caravan Brutosaur will be the next thing I waste money on.
I'm not a goblin but in Legion when gold was easy to come by, I had a project of buying all cheap transmog (around few hundred gold) just to boost my collection in case I would ever fancy a change. I didn't even check if I liked that appearance.
Why bother making gold if you're not going to spend it? It's not pure and shiny, it's completely imaginary. Someday WoW will shut down, and all that gold you've spent so much time accumulating will be gone with the flip of a switch. You could've been chasing around your arachnophobe friends with the spider for years, or parking your auctioneer right between your garrison's mailbox and bank. Gold only has value within the game, and the bnet shop. You're not earning interest on it. You aren't going to lose your WoW job some day, you won't need it for a comfortable WoW retirement. Your WoW kids aren't going to college. Nobody but you can even SEE it. I guess I'd stop spending if I didn't have enough to buy a few months worth of tokens, but I bought a Brutosaur as soon as I got to Boralus.
With penny pinching, what comes to mind is from before I had my gold. This was especially the case for me in Vanilla. Anything that can be sold on the auction house I'd keep and not waste vendoring. As much as possible, I only sell and not buy anything from the AH. If I need something, I'll craft it myself. Now my gold mostly gets converted to balance to buy game time and other Blizzard games.
I like spending my money on anything that looks like a steal to me just to try and flip it for that little bit extra, but other than that, regularly, I buy herbs and make something out of them, usually glyphs, to either use on alts or sell. The most expensive thing I've ever bought was a Spectral Cub that I later managed to sell for 3x what I purchased it for. \ D: / I did try to go for a container, but it just wasn't meant to be... :C
What do you like to spend your gold on? What's the most expensive thing you've ever bought? Have you ever gambled with an unclaimed container on the Black Market?I am a mount collector. In fact, any and all gold-making skills I've acquired over the years has been for the express purpose of expanding that collection -- and as a result, I've actually come to really enjoy many parts of the gold making game. On that note -- the penny pinching thing has sometimes started to loom over me when I was starting to have significant amounts of gold (well, significant for me, anyway), and when that happens I have to take a huge step back. I remind myself that this is imaginary currency, and that the whole point of getting this gold is to spend it on things that I want, be that mounts, xmog, pets, game time, or tokens for the store mounts. I don't need the same financial anxiety that plagues my real-life investing clouding my enjoyment of my hobby. The most expensive purchase I have ever made was about a week ago. I finally had enough gold for that sweet, sweet spider, and she's the best damn thing I ever bought. I love her and I am one happy (and ex-arachnophobic, lol) collector. I think I bid on a container once -- but it was in the days before I was actually gold-making, and I was outbid fairly quickly. I have been hesitant to try since then because I really have abysmal luck.
I mostly spend my gold on tokens, trying to buy them when the price is lowest.
The Goblin Commandment I respect the most is to enjoy the game. When I try to "be smart" and try to farm something for 3 hours I lose my will to do that tomorrow. Also, to enforce this law, the rule to set realistic goals. If you are willing to get 2k gold, you will have sense of accomplishment. If you will look at the price of frog mount, you will lose any hope instead. You can't enjoy getting rich when you want too much in too short time.
The bulk of my gold goes to keeping my battle.net balance high (I’ve hit that cap a couple times). I spend it on 6-month subscriptions (since that’s a little cheaper than going month by month), and have been picking up the Hearthstone expansion specials as those come out. I bought a couple of the store charity pets, too.I’ve bought all the vendor pets, mounts and toys that are 20,000g or less. I pick up all the tabards, shirts, and such, too. The only time I went up to a 6-figure price was buying the Pandaria vendor/transmog Yak.I avoid spending gold on transmogging my toons—it just feels too expensive to keep them up. I do like to take advantage of the semi-annual transmog event for that, though, since it’s free for that week.Since the mobile app for the auction house was removed, I only rarely post stuff to the AH now (probably not even as frequently as once a month). The AH has never been a fun game for me — always felt like work. The mobile app was at least convenient and could fill a couple minutes here or there when away from my computer.
