This happens to me on a regular basis, I travel as tech support and may log in from anywhere. The last time it happened I travelled to Albuqurque then to Victoria,BC, CA. I have no problem when I do this and get locked out for a short bit and have to take steps to login.
This post was from a user who has deleted their account.
This is very interesting.
Blizz has gone well and beyond out of their way to help people secure their accounts and get their accounts back.No other company has gone to these lengths to secure an MMO account.I think this is their last offer to people that refuse to use a standard authenticator on their account. I am sure the authenticator push and offering the core hound pup pet helped drop the numbers of accounts getting hacked this is the next step to bring that number down.BTW; All the holier then thou my account has never been hacked cause I am a master of computer security blah blah. We really don't care its freaking irrelevant I have never had an account hacked in an MMO or my identity stolen by making online purchases. I have played many games and bought many items but I still use an authenticator personally. If someone cracked my wow account it would really upset me, having a minor inconvenience for an extra layer of security is worth it easily.
Interesting idea. It's simply another added level of security. As others have stated, neither this, nor the authenticator tokens, should be used as a sole method of security. Account security starts with the account holder, and no matter what actions Blizzard takes, there will always be compromised accounts, simply because there will be some people who aren't educated in basic computer security. But adding new tools to help reduce the number of compromised accounts will (probably) never be a bad thing.
Last I checked, an extra layer of security is never a bad thing. You can preach all you want about internet security, but you know what? Your just making useless chatter that is no help what-so-ever when you don't also mention resources someone could use to secure their computer. Not your job to inform people you say? Well then shut up with your preaching. Because if you're only going to blame and not help then your post is a waste of server memory. And your holier than though, "I've never been hacked so I'm better than you" attitude really pisses me off.
So I only have to call if logging in from a new ip? I would not use this if I had to call every time, but this actually sounds pretty cool.
