I've seen keyboard turners tank better than people who don't. So, yes, there are actually exceptions to the "well known fact" that all keyboard turners are n00bs and suck at the game.=P
I've been playing this game for five years and I still keyboard turn and use my mouse to click my attacks. You say I'm holding my raid groups back? When I'm pulling the most dps and not dying to fire/voids/laser beams? It's a different playstyle, nothing more. You think you're better than me because you turn with your mouse, that's cool. But my way works and has worked, and I'm still chugging along with the best of them.
It's not "Some keyboard turners tank better than mouse turners".It's "Some mouse turners tank worse than anybody".
I keyboard turned up until WotLK without even knowing it was an issue. I started playing in BC simply because my husband did and with the birth of our first child coming shortly after I hit 70, I really never had the time to raid. At best I would get invited to fill an alt spot in a Kara badge farm for my guild, and by then everyone had it so down pat that no one noticed the little mage limping along behind. At the advent of Wrath, my munchkin had adopted a regular sleep schedule and even mastered the art of playing by herself for an hour or two at a time, and I got into more serious WoW. It was fighting Loken that made me realize something was terribly wrong. My husband actually spent a few hours attempting to cure my KBT Disorder after I died during his HHoL run. He had me practicing (like the video suggested) running from one end of Dalaran to the other, and while at first I wanted to kill him over it, I now mouse turn almost exclusively. I say almost. Occasionally I fall back into my old ways . . . or did until I let said husband use my account for a few days, and he hot keyed my turn keys. Now every so often my level 17 priest bank alt casts renew on some unsuspecting Auctioneer.
For those of you still struggling to see why keyboard turning is bad, watch again at how long it took him to turn completely around to look at the poster (the slow time he was turning his whole body, not the fast time) . That is just about literally how long it took a keyboard-turning pug dk to turn around to try to run from the gas cloud during my guild's icc run today; of course he died and the explosion managed to kill about half the group (isn't it always a dk who manages to wipe the group the most?) . His slow reaction times, due to keyboard turning wiped the raid twice (other mistakes made us wipe another time) and we had to call it due to just ONE keyboard turner.
I use the keyboard to turn all the time, but I don't think I've ever turned 180* with it. I always start strafing when I move to sort of about-face or to correct my positioning a little bit before I start to fully move with the mouse. In an absolute rush (especially if I have to turn around completely) I've found I can sometimes screw up my trajectory by clicking too fast and sometimes wind up farther in danger by solely using the mouse.I'm not so sure I've ever met or seen someone who will sit there and wait to turn around completely before moving out of danger, but maybe I've never paid attention. When I'm getting out of dodge I don't have time to worry about what everyone else is doing until I'm in a safe spot.
Having played Quake, UT and CoD alternately between binge WoW sessions, I cant even get to grips with keyboard turning... Every time I have to re-install WoW, it messes with my head that 'A' and 'D' don't strafe me left and right. However, I will admit to clicking my attacks and skills for 70% of the time. It's a disability i know... And I have no excuse as normally I'd know every keybinding for flashlight, grenade, crouch etc. It's just how my pala tank grew up!...I do now have to see if keyboard turning actually works for the spiral staircases though!
I do not understand all these "its just a game" replies. He is not bashing anyone for keyboard turning. He is saying that keyboard turning is not the most efficient way of moving around. He is giving advice to learn mouse turning. The video was made with a good meaning, stop making it look bad when you did not catch the point. My oppinion about keyboard turning? It is slower than mouse turning. There is no witty counter-argument to that, it just is. Yes, there are people who keyboard turn for whatever reason, and they get used to it, and think they rock, and they have this "i am showing you guys that it can be done the sub-optimal way too because i am just so skilled and stuff".But really. That sounds like chopping off your arms IRL just to laugh into others faces that you can live a full life even without arms, while they are dependant on them. You are not being a pro really. You are choosing the worse way, trying to polish it into perfection, but you would still be better off if you just went the optimal way. Also, if i wanted to teach someone to mouse-turn, id let him play an FPS. Counter Strike or Battlefield or whatever. Thats mouse turning to the max. FPS players know very well why keyboard turners fail compared to them.
And here i thought only girls used Keyboard turning, aswell as using the mouse to click on abilities :Pno no.. im not a sexist.. talking from experience Oo
The idea of using the A or D keys to turn your character is SO incredibly foreign to me: When I saw this article about 'keyboard turning' I was trying to figure out why ANYONE would rotate their keyboard around mid-play. . .
