Classic Viscidus Possibly Bugged - Frost Wands Not Counting Towards Freezing The Boss

, an encounter that relies on freezing attacks to transition into the next phase, appears to be bugged in Classic as damage from Frost Wands do not count.
While Mages can spam

and contribute to the encounter, Priests and Warlocks do not have Frost damage abilities. To help freeze Viscidus, they relied on
Varinha do Frio Penetrante
, a fast Frost-damage wand from AV rewards. (The equivalent weapons for melee like
do appear to be working.) Looking at the database page, you can find comments from 2006 talking about this wand's usefulness. However, that comment was posted after the AQ patch, so it's unclear if Frost Wands worked back in vanilla or if that was a TBC addition.
This wand is still useful to warlocks and priests, especially on the Viscidus fight. ANY type of frost damage will cause him to freeze.
With AQ opening last night on NA realms, Viscidus was the most-challenging boss, causing <ONSLAUGHT>, the first NA guild to defeat C'Thun, to wipe and zone out for more NR gear and consumables.
More concrete evidence comes from an
in-depth Reddit thread
analyzing data from Warcraft Logs, noting that wand hits do not appear to be counting towards Viscidus' total. Viscidus freezes after 200 freezing effects, but the logs report way more wand hits, strongly implying they do not count towards the total:
"The numbers from early logs strongly suggest that wanding does not aid in freezing Viscidus.
The "known" number of freezing effects that must be applied to freeze Viscidus is 200. Next I link two logs where Viscidus is frozen 3 times using ~600 frostbolts* (600/3 = 200), but a substantially different number of wand hits (266 vs 503).
(*The exact numbers, as below, are actually 639 and 641. This is due to some weapon procs occuring between the freeze/shatter phase.)

Last melee hit is 1:03. You can filter off the colors for all skills and turn melee on to see the cut off.
Frostbolt hits: 116
Frostbolt melee: 45

Wand: 87 hits, exclusive of arcane or not, the remaining numbers hit 200 already.
So far we've already seen
C'Thun launch with the wrong Eye Beam behavior
, which was hotfixed yesterday to make the fight more challenging. It's possible that Viscidus could also be bugged, although the fix would make this encounter easier to defeat.
