For those of us who only raid 10 man, this weapon will be best in slot for human ret pallies and fury warriors. Non human Ret and Fury will probably want to go with Stormedge (https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=45458), unless already hit capped. Feral will probably pass as 10 man naxx staff is better.

This mace is going to be quite strong when Patch 3.1.0 is releaced because of the buff on Armor Penetration.
Also, its one of the few Two-handed weapons in Ulduar 10-man that DOESNT have haste ( not including polearms) . Crit is alway needed and considering this is from 10-man mode, its a very impressive weapon.

This is an excellent weapon for any melee class that can wield a two-handed mace, and is confirmed to drop from the 10-man version of Ulduar off of Flame Leviathan (normal mode, you do not need to enable the hard mode to trigger the drop - do not read hard mode as Heroic, they are different).

Any DPS class that can use it would benefit greatly from the large amount of Armor Penetration Rating that now, in version 3.1, provides a far more damage increasing stat than before (from the 3.1 patch notes: "Armor Penetration Rating: All classes now receive 25% more benefit from Armor Penetration Rating.")

This weapon is of special interest for Arms Warriors, because they can put 5 talent points into Mace Specialization ("Your attacks with maces ignore up to 15% of your opponents armor").

Do NOT take this as a statement that it is best for Arms Warriors, only that they will likely be very interested in it for specialization. Again, this weapon is quite awesome for all classes that can wield it!

One of three known two-handed weapons with strength in Ulduar non-heroic (10-man). The others are Stormedge, from Hodir, and Abaddon, from Yogg-Saron.

For 10-man-only fury warriors doing Ulduar without any hard modes, this is a clear cut best in slot and it can be dual-wielded. No fury warrior raiding Ulduar will likely have any trouble meeting the hit cap for special (yellow) attacks, and after that point critical strike rating is favored over hit rating. The exception are orc fury warriors; they will sometimes favor Stormedge if they are under the expertise softcap (26 expertise). Stormedge is superior if the orc needs all of the expertise. Betrayer of Humanity from Kel'thuzad in heroic Naxxramas, or any appropriate 25-man Ulduar drop are superior to any 10-man non-hard-mode Ulduar drop.

Arms warriors do benefit from Ironsoul, and it is an upgrade over Death's Bite even if it puts the warrior under hit cap, as a result of the slower speed and heavy armor penetration itemization. Arms warriors generally prefer axes or polearms, however, due to how much better Poleaxe Specialization is than Mace Specialization. Stormedge and Hoperender are better than Ironsoul, even for a hit-capped arms warrior. Human and dwarf warriors may find themselves favoring Ironsoul due to their racial expertise, depending on how much expertise they need to cap, but between Weapon Mastery and Strength of Arms few arms warriors are in much need of expertise. Again, Betrayer of Humanity or any appropriate 25-man Ulduar drop are preferred to any Ulduar 10-man non-hard-mode drop.

Tanking death knights will prefer Abaddon, with its hit and greater amount of stamina, Stormedge with its significant pile of hit rating for threat, or possibly even Relentless Edge, with its greater amount of avoidance. Save for dwarf DKs, who might want this over Stormedge as a threat weapon due to Mace Specialization, this weapon excels in no single area compared to the other options.

I'm sure this is very nice for retribution paladins and DPSing death knights of various specs, but I will let someone more familiar with those specs comment in greater detail. I am told that DPSing feral druids will greatly prefer Relentless Edge or Hoperender (until they get Tortured Earth, a drop from hard-mode 10-man General Vezax), but this is second-hand. This is obviously bad for enhancement shamans, who are still using two one-handed weapons, and tanking feral druids, who prefer items with agility.

Since this was originally posted, new two-handers with strength have been discovered in hard mode loot tables. Aesir's Edge from hard-mode 10-man XT-002 and Hammer of Crushing Whispers from 10-man Yogg-Saron with zero or one Keepers helping are a marked upgrade over any 10-man normal-mode drop.

For Ferals - especially cats - it is simply a question of your gear, if this weapon rocks or not. Many cats will have primal precision and are already at or over the expertise cap. With 4T7 you will likely be over the cap. So if you are over the cap this weapon ist better than the 'Staff of the Plaguehound'.
Additionally, ArP is a very good stat for cats wich gets better the more you have of it. So go stacking it; your Ironsoul will help alot.

Due to the changes to armor pen, this mace is now the best 2h weapon outside of Earthshaper/Rune Edge/ Lotrafen/Voldrethar for Blood DPS DKs. It beats worldcarver pretty handily which drops off of 25 man Ignis. It's slower speed (higher top end) outpaces the superior weapon dps of the world carver because blood specs use so many %weapon damage abilities. Our talent, Blood Gorged, gives us a big jump on getting ArPen, which becomes more valuable the more of it you have.

Given how easy Leviathan is on 10 man, this is a good way to get a weapon that will last you until your guild starts downing Yogg Saron or General on Heroic.

It's important to take into consideration that armor penetration only affects physical damage, and many classes get a large amount of their damage contribution from spell damage based attacks.

Physical DPS classes magic damage contribution :

Paladins : Holy Damage from Divine Storm/Judgments/Consecrate
Rogues : Nature Damage from Poisons
Death Knights : Various from Diseases/Frost Abilities
Shamans : Various from Stormstrike/Shocks/Lava Lash
Hunters : Various from Viper Sting, Explosive Shot, Arcane Shot
Druids : 100% physical damage
Warriors : 100% physical damage

The amount of non-physical damage contribution varies drastically based on spec and class of course, but many classes will see one of these magic damage abilities probably in the top 3 to 5 spot for damage contribution. To quote Unpossible : Do NOT take this as a statement that it is best for Warriors, but I think its fair to say that armor pen is more utilized by warriors and druids over some other classes.

Incorrect.

Poleaxe Specialization gives 230 Crit Rating when using polearms or Axes.

Pre 3.1 Mace Specialization only gave 185 Armor Penetration Rating, but we are in 3.1 now, meaning +25% to Armor Penetration bring Mace Specialization to 231 Armor Penetration Rating....

Seems they are about equal to me...

I don't know for sure, but I'm willing to bet that once an arms warrior hits 55% raid buffed crit chance as axe spec, it'd be more beneficial to trade the 5% crit/crit damage for 15% armor ignore on all attacks. I say 55%, because overpower gets 100% crit chance at 50% crit, and the 5% to account for losing axe spec. Although, at the same time, this would probably require that the warrior's attack power itemization favors socketing armor pen over strength.

As for me, it's the best weapon you can get in 10 man Ulduar with only normal modes for plate melee dpsers. Well, of course if you're hit capped already. Even Abaddon from Yoggy is a little bit worse.

While this weapon is great for many specs of 2handed melee dps that want this, Unholy Death Knights unless they are desperate for a upgrade should pass over this, i have needed a new weapon since the time i hit 80 on my own death knight which is and will always be unholy, but i wish i had the polearm off ignis instead. Great for blood DK's though.

Speaking as a Death Knight who has this. it is generally best for blood or frost spec because your strike is a physical dmg spell. Unholy death knights will recieve little benefit from the massive amount ArP do to the fact Scourge Strike is magic damage and that along with Unholy blight and death coil make up most of a unholy dk's dps leaving ArP to only benefit white dmg and blood strike which doesnt make up for nearly as much dmg.i like it best for blood as death strike and heart strike put to use all the ArP this item offers. Unholy Dk's would be well served to either use death's bite, or Betrayer of humanity, and then earthshaper as an upgrade. If you ask me its very obvious blizzard is sick of the unholy spec as most of the plate dps two hander's carry ArP. Also nice that this drops off the first boss of the instance as having the dps from this item will help clear the rest of ulduar. Much better than naxx where most of us carried the titansteel destroyer all the way to kel thuzad before a good upgrade.

I am a ret pally and i have always been wondering about htis weapon...the armor pen confuses me...I was told that armor pen was useless pre 3.1 because crusader strike hit in holy dmg instead of physical so only white dmg would be getting this effect. So is this good for a ret pally cause I am looking ofr an upgrade from Titansteel Destroyer.

Sigh this weapon has caused me agony like no other. So much that I don't join 10 man Ulduars led by Ret Pallys or Death Knights. I have gone into Ulduar at least 3 times thinking I have a solid pug to then have the Raid Lead ninja Ironsoul and disband the raid wasting my save. Maybe I have just had poor luck but I'd really like to make it beyond Flame Leviathan especially since no main spec loot for me drops from FL.

excellent two hander for blood dps death knight the ArP is very nice. This isnt a very good two hander for unholy dps though as the ArP is very high on this mace and scourge strike recieves no benefit from the ArP. Unholy dps should prob stick to naxxramas two handers as a lot of 2hand weapons have a fair amount of ArP in ulduar. ArP for frost is not worthless but frost strike recieves no benefit from it either but it will make your obliterates hurt more so ArP is moderately valuable in frost. Oh and lastly no hit on this so make sure you are hitcapped without your old twohander

this weapon is great for kitty druids as well. with only greater savagery this weapon gives 500 more AP, 0.30% more crit, and armor penetration rating than Staff of trickery. whoever says this isn't for druids is an idiot. 105 strength - 210 AP and the crit rating more than makes up for the 89 agil on the trickery staff from VH.

If you're tired of farming this week after week, I'd recommend farming H ToC daily for Edge of Ruin. It's almost identical. Sacrifices a little crit and ArP for more Strength but is otherwise the same basic idea.
